I am an award winning artist, born and raised in a small farming community in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. I have been fascinated by the colour and beauty around me for as long as I can remember. My obsession with watercolour began in 2002 during an afternoon workshop… My paints and paper were student quality, but I found myself painting with them every day! The student grade materials have long been replaced by artist quality pigments and supports. My recent work is held internationally in private collections in the United States, Canada, Australia, Belgium, France and England.

I graduated in 1999 from Ryerson University’s continuing education program in photography studies. Since then, I have worked extensively in both film and digital media, and have shown and sold my work at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Toronto and throughout central and southern Ontario. I am a member of Visual Arts Ontario and have been a frequent participant in the annual CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival.

I am privileged to reside near the shores of Lake Huron and look out my window every day at The Pinery Provincial Park. The beauty of this landscape gives me daily inspiration and feeds my passion as an artist.
I began painting after a successful career in financial planning. London and area artists, as well as artists from other parts of Ontario and the United States have greatly assisted me with my development. I believe that art is a journey and that my personal artistic growth can be enhanced by learning from accomplished artists in a variety of mediums.
I work in watercolours, acrylic and oils using an intuitive approach to my paintings and especially enjoy portrait and figurative work. I show my work locally as well as in Florida and my paintings hang in private collections in Canada, the United States and overseas.
I am actively involved in the art community locally, nationally and in Florida. Last year I was instrumental in opening a new co-op art gallery in Grand Bend called Sunset Arts. I am also a board member for The Grand Bend Art Center where I occasionally instruct workshops.
I am the chair for special events and activities for the Society of Canadian Artists. While wintering in Florida, I am involved with the Cultural Arts Association and the Women’s Art Network.
This past winter my art was featured on the front page of The Destin Log.

Art
The rural Ontario Landscape in which I live is my subject, expressed through the technique of linocut relief printmaking. I am drawn by the effects which result from the relationship between man and nature. While this relationship is generally perceived to be negative, the landscape we see around us, whether it is urban, rural, or so-called wilderness, is always a creation of the combined influences of man and nature. This inevitable interaction need not always be negative and, in fact, can result in great beauty.

About Technique
Reduction linocut printing is an exhilarating technique in that there is no going back and correcting after the carving of each layer is done. While there is always the risk of failure (whole editions have been discarded after many layers of work) I enjoy the challenge of “Thinking backwards” and incorporating the unexpected results which appear with every layer in order to achieve a good result.

Helen Normandeau

Helen Normandeau, living now in Chatham, was born in Windsor where most of her early education took place. Helen received an undergraduate degree in English Literature at U. of Western Ontario in London, and a master’s degree in Textile Design at the U. Of Wisconsin. Though making art was something Helen did most of her life she only approached it seriously after retirement. Helen then launched herself into studies which took her to Detroit and Florida, to the Sadie Bronfman Centre in Montreal and the Montreal College of Art, to the internationally known artist Bill Porteous in Victoria, B.C., and most recently to educational opportunities in Chatham,ON.

Helen’s work is in galleries and private collections in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia and several American cities. She works in a variety of media and in as many art styles, but her favorite is abstract painting in the form of the Mandala, using gouache as her medium of choice. This combination enables her best to serve her artistic purpose which is to make the Sacred visible.

Janos Gardonyi

Janos Gardonyi, B. Arch (Hons.) OAA (ret.) MRAIC is a retired Architect and Photographer of Hungarian origin. He came to Canada in 1957 and completed his education at the University of Toronto. He had been the Chief Architect of Orlando Corporation and has been responsible for the design and execution of many high rise office towers, shopping plazas, commercial and industrial developments. Upon retirement he turned to artistic photography and exhibited extensively in art galleries and restaurants in Toronto and vicinity. To this date he has held over 25 exhibitions.
He has won 2nd prize in an international competition and exhibited a number of images at Contact 2007, Toronto Photography Festival. Currently he is associated with at least 5 Toronto art galleries and a member artist of ARTA Gallery, Station Gallery (Whitby), Cobalt Gallery and Ooh-ahh Gallery.
His subjects include landscapes, townscapes, architectural and historical photography and many images collected during his extensive foreign travels.
He also creates digital artwork and abstract images. He is married and has two grown daughters and a grandson.

Marie Harold

Raised in rural Ontario, landscape and nature watercolour artist, Marie Harold, brings to life the images of Canadiana. Whether it’s an old covered bridge, a weather-beaten barn in the Mealtimes or rosy-cheeked children playing in the snow, Marie’s watercolours evoke warmth, tranquility, and a sense of nostalgia.
Although she has taken a few lessons, Marie believes that her artistic ability is a gift from God and thus she hopes her work will honour Him and the beauty of His creation.

Rosemary Hasner

In 2008, Rosemary started Black Dog Creative Arts in Masnfield, Ontario after spending nearly two decades working as a professional photographer in Toronto, most recently for Toronto and Region Conservation. You may recognize her photos from several features in In The Hills magazine and her three books: The Maple Syrup Book (2006), Dufferin County (2003) and Nature Hikes: Near Toronto Trails and Adventures (2000, reprinted in 2005 and 2009).
While she continues to do traditional freelance photography work, her passion lies with her art. She uses photographs to form the foundation for evocative and emotive mixed media artwork. In fact, her pieces are so complex that viewers often cannot believe they started as photographs. The resultant work has drawn considerable attention from collectors, jurors and fellow artists alike.
